Start: Salinas de Añana Finish: Vitoria-Gasteiz
We will make our way to Vitoria-Gasteiz, but not before first taking a detour to visit the Salt Valley of Añana. Various types of excellent-quality salt have been produced here for centuries, using an artisan method of terraced ponds and channels in a valley which has become one of the most spectacular landscapes in the Basque Country. Take a guided tour, enjoy a salt spa or take one of their salts with you as a souvenir.
Vitoria-Gasteiz is a city with medieval roots, and its Historic Quarter is not to be missed. Don't miss out on the Santa Maria cathedral, the Bibat complex, a building which houses the Fournier Playing Cards Museum and the Archaeology Museum, and the narrow streets with their palaces and churches which bear witness to the city's medieval past. Continue your exploration of the city around its neo-classical ensanche (widening), with buildings and sites of great beauty and stylised proportions. You'll be spoilt for choice by the city's cuisine: pintxos bars, cuisine d'auteur, Michelin stars, grillrooms, cider houses and the best that Alava's cuisine has to offer.
