Work to restore the splendour of Butrón Castle begins

After a study of archaeological analysis and even a complete petrological report, the works to restore the emblematic castle of Butrón are underway. Although its interior condition is good, damp and water have caused stains, algae formation and other vegetation on the façade.

The intervention is expected to take around two years, a process that will involve professionals specialised in the restoration of historic monuments. Maintaining the essence and magic that surrounds this castle will be a priority during the restoration process, and will not affect its architectural style.

Visits during restoration

Those who had planned to visit the castle during their visit need not worry, the castle will be open to visitors during the process. Those who come to Gatika will have the opportunity to hire guided tours to see the castle and its surroundings, a forest of more than 35 hectares full of trees.

Butrón Castle has been standing for more than 300 years, since the 16th century. It was built during a time of bloody battles between nobles, with the aim of serving as a refuge for the lords of Butrón. What was originally a fortress-tower, was transformed over time to become the castle we know today.
